An important drivers of change in communities across Ghana are sporting clubs, who are vital in bringing people from all walks of life together. These clubs play an influential role in promoting respect and gender equality and supporting the prevention of men’s violence against women.
White Ribbon and Sporting Clubs
Sport is a critical channel for raising awareness of the importance of respectful relationships among codes, clubs, members and fans. Millions of men, women, boys and girls play sport at some point in their lives, and it is important that the prevention of men’s violence against women is incorporated into training, games, events and broadcasting to reach further into the community and highlight a zero tolerance approach. This framework contains a number of ways that any sports club could get involved in the White Ribbon social movement, whether they be a top-tier club playing in a national competition or a local club run by community volunteers.
